On 14 January 2026, readers, writers, and members of the literary community gathered at Emerald I, The Sonnet, Salt Lake, for the launch of As Seen in Dreams, the debut poetry collection by Sangbit Das. The event marked an important moment for the young poet as his first book entered the world of readers and critics.
The book was formally inaugurated by the eminent poet and writer Subodh Sarkar, whose presence added warmth and gravitas to the occasion. Speaking at the launch, Sarkar reflected on the enduring relevance of poetry and encouraged emerging voices who explore both tradition and modern experience.
As Seen in Dreams is a carefully sequenced collection of twenty poems that moves fluidly across forms, voices, and themes. Some of the poems are accompanied by illustrations, offering readers a visual entry into the poet’s thoughts and emotional landscapes. The collection travels through intimate monologues, lyrical reflections, and subtle commentaries on contemporary life. Love, myth, isolation, fear, and the quiet absurdities of modern existence appear throughout the work, weaving together diverse poetic traditions.
What makes the collection distinctive is its balance between classical structure and modern sensibility. The poems reflect a thoughtful engagement with traditional poetic forms while remaining deeply personal and contemporary in tone.
At its heart, As Seen in Dreams feels like an open conversation between the poet and the reader. The pages reveal fragments of thought, imagination, and emotion—inviting readers not just to observe but to interact with the poet’s inner world, and perhaps discover reflections of their own experiences within it.
